Fortune Telling – Part V
Ceromancy, one of the most ancient forms of divination, is similar to tasseography (tea leaf reading) in that it depends on the interpretation of shapes. In this case, the shapes are produced by dropping melted wax into water.
The most common way to try ceromancy is to heat wax until it’s molten, then to pour it directly into cold water. The shapes and movements of the wax as it cools and solidifies can then be read to forecast the future.
While you can heat the wax in a small pot, most people find it’s easier to use a candle. Any color will work, although darker colors show up better. And candles that are made of natural waxes, like beeswax, are best because they provide more drippings. Simply light the candle and tip it over a pan of cold water so the wax drips into it. Let the shapes solidify fully before trying to interpret them.
Listed below are some of the more common meanings for the shapes that can result.
